The Ventura Film Festival has earned recognition as "the most extensive film festival in Ventura County's history." This prestigious recognition underscores the festival's commitment to bringing diverse cinema to the local community while continuing its mission toward essential conservation issues.

The Ventura Film Festival serves as a multi-genre global film festival that promotes recognition of environmental matters like woodland and marine conservation and recovery, via a yearly film showcase and corresponding activities. The organization employs the medium of movies to promote activism and foster important conversations about these vital environmental matters.

The Ventura Film Festival began in 2004 and has presented countless films, commonly surpassing 200 films each summer, and has generated excitement within the international film community. From its beginning, the festival has developed into an important cultural gathering that connects film artists, environmental champions, and spectators from throughout the world.

Memorable occasions have featured presenting celebrated filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the original world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend along with Ian Cairns, four-time world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA competitor the celebrated Fabio Leopoldo, and the half-century commemoration of West Side Story, which included hosting the entire award-winning cast of West Side Story, encompassing Academy Award winner/Golden Globe recipient George Chakiris and legendary actor Golden Globe recipient/Oscar nominee Russ Tamblyn. These distinguished guests and festivities have established the festival's standing as a leading location for celebrating cinema and the visionaries who produce it.

The founding executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was privileged to participate, along with many of Hollywood's top stars, in the 50th website Anniversary tribute of West Side Story and Hollywood's legendary footprint/handprint ceremony for Academy Award recipients Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, as well as Golden Globe award winner Russ Tamblyn at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This ceremony also acted as the official BluRay introduction by Fox and MGM of the beloved West Side Story, which is commonly viewed by critics and fans as the greatest musical of all time.
